Kimberling City Area:
Rain late in the week has raised the lake level about a foot and
lower the overall water temps b around three degrees. The influx of
water has caused the Corps to run water daily through the generators
in preparation for spring rains. The bite hasn’t changed much with
both deep and shallow patterns producing fish through out the mid
lake. Shallow fish can be caught on Jewel Football and Pro Spider
jigs, Wiggle Warts and Umbrella rigged grubs; look for fish to be on
rocky banks and points holding from 10 ‘ – 25’ deep close to deeper
water.
James River:
The rain has washed
dirtier water into the James River and lowered the water temp to the
lowest on the lake. Fish and bait can be found on the main lake and
in the mouths of larger feeder creeks from Aunts Creek to Cape Fair.
The same shallow patterns that are working on in the mid lake are
effective in the mid James; add a SPRO McStick and you’ve got all of
the bases covered. The deep bite has not been as strong on the James
but there are a few fish being caught on Chompers Webb Tail spoons
around larger docks in Aunts Creek.
White River:
The umbrella rig
bite has been very strong in the White River; the best bite has been
from Baxter to Shell Knob, concentrate on steep chunk rock banks and
points close to deeper water. On calm days the Jewel jig bite has
been your best option; football and pro spider jigs in PB&J or brown
purple flash worked on rocky banks from 10’ – 20’ deep will result
in both quantity and quality. SPRO McStick jerkbaits have also been
very effective, look for wind blown rocky points to out produce
other spots, work the bait quickly with pauses of five seconds or
less to draw strikes.
Dam Area:
The best deep bite
is still on the lower end of the lake. Schools of shad have moved
from the main lake into the larger creek arms and are holding in
main channels near submerged tree tops 35’ – 55’ deep. Chompers Webb
Tail Spoons, Drop Shot Worms and Rapala Ice Jigs have all been
effective presentations. Look for the schools of bait on electronics
and the fish will be close by. The dock bite continues to produce
larger fish in the dam area; Jewel Pro Spider and Eakins jigs fished
close to the center walkway of larger community docks has been the
ticket. Work the jig from 10’ – 35’ deep paying close attention to
the bait as it falls.

Constant generation has lead to some good fishing on
Taneycomo. Fast moving lures like Little Cleos and Bouyant Spoons
have been producing numbers and quality when the water is running
hard. Sculpin peach and sculpin orange jigs are producing as well;
look for current breaks and eddies to be the most productive areas
and work the jig erratically to draw strikes. As always fish can be
caught on drift rigs; power bait and gulp eggs continue to out
produce other offerings on the rig.
